With the start of the 2008 season underway, it looks less likely that Alex Smith will be in the 49ers’ future. If he does not find success at all this season, he will definitely not return next season with San Francisco.

49ers QB Alex Smith Injures His Surgically Repaired Shoulder - GridironFans.com

49ers backup QB Alex Smith injured his surgically repaired right shoulder this week and is doubtful for tomorrow’s game. That means Shaun Hill will be the back-up and that Michael Robinson would be the emergency back-up. Here’s a quote from Mike Nolan: “Yesterday Alex Smith sustained a non-contact injury to his surgically repaired right shoulder. He will be consulting with his surgeon in Birmingham for treatment recommendations. At this time there are no specifics to the injury or a timetable.”

Week 1 is upon us folks and with that brings great excitement and intrigue as all teams start fresh with a 0-0 record. There is not another sport out there to where year after year new teams pop up out of nowhere to contend for the title as the balance of talent in the NFL for the most part is outstanding. It was great last night to see that football is finally back. I started off my predictions on a good note taking the Giants to win at home.
